Hello again, everyone.
I’ll be starting another project, featuring the same character, but with a different genre.
DISCLAIMER: Every screenshot, art or sound asset used in this project/blog is for educational/entertainment purpose only, I am not selling this project
WHAT’S THE GAME ABOUT?

It will be a 2D side-scrolling (science-fiction) platformer featuring The Doctor. Players would help the Doctor navigate through a “maze” and avoid any Daleks along the way in order to escape.
WHERE WOULD THE GAME TAKE PLACE?

I’ve decided to set the player in one of the most dangerous location within the Doctor Who universe: The Dalek Asylum.
It is literally a dumping ground where the Daleks take the “insane, broken or disobedient” units and sent them there to rot. Most are comatose, but very alive and dangerous when provoked. Hence, game rule: avoid enemies.

NOTE : By the way, the Daleks are small octopus-like aliens beings cased within a VERY sturdy piece of weaponised armour. The Doctor loathes them as they are literally “Space Nazis”, bent on conquering the universe and ridding any “inferior” species that is not Dalek.
WHAT AM I AIMING FOR EXACTLY?
I want to create a solid level, where players would feel that they have been isolated from the safety of human society, trapped inside a sinister alien vessel and they just want to get the heck out, albeit cautiously.
NOTE : Play the video from 01:30 – 01:50 (also, the video below was obtained from BBC’s official YouTube channel)

You know how Mario dies to a Goomba (any enemy in general) in one hit (without a mushroom) if he’s careless? That is what I want my players to do: avoid confrontation and bloody escape.
DO I HAVE A PLAN? OR ANY REFERENCE/RESEARCH?

I will be looking into real-life abandoned asylum to see if it helps me acquire the visual mood I am looking for, as well as existing alien ships, especially from sci-fi horror movies/games such as Alien (1979) or Alien: Isolation (2014).
Assets-wise, I will re-use the previous Doctor Who assets from the last project, mainly the player and enemy character, everything else (background, music, sound effect) would probably have to be mashed together again in order to get the look and feel I want. (experiment and research~)
WHAT TOOLS WILL I BE USING?
For this project, I’ll be using:
- Stencyl: for creating this protoype
- Photoshop: for editing images to suit my visual want and feel for the game
- Audacity and Final Cut Pro X: to edit/splice audio files to enhance the immersion of the overall experience
So in conclusion, I am aiming to:
- create a 2D side-scrolling (sci-fi based) platformer level set in the Doctor Who universe
- find art assets online to help me in creating a visual feel of an sinister alien ship
- find audio assets online to enhance the immerse the player while playing the level
- research into how game used assets accordingly to make a “scary” level
Until the next update, take care everyone, have an exciting day.
