Theory: WHAT would people want to play in games?

Here we are, at perhaps the final chapter on this matter.

Let’s review:

I’m here if you need to talk..

I proposed that when people feel sad and lonely, interacting with people helps lighten the load. In reality and in games.

Well, what happens to those who don’t have the courage to speak up? How do they cope?

Taking into account on everything so far, I got one last logical argument to offer:

Premise 1: Humans will respond and demand Relatedness
Premise 2: Products can be infused with Relatedness

Conclusion: People will respond and demand products that contain Relatedness

Wait a sec, Relatedness sounds familiar. Yes, it does.

Hello, again!

Relatedness, the need to feel you belong somewhere.

It’s okay to acknowledge your feelings.

Remember feeling this need is completely natural and human.

So, what does this have to do with anything? How do video games come into play here?

If players lack the courage to speak to people, why not let them interact with a believable character? Let them build up their social skills at their own pace, and feel good about themselves.

We’re all friends here.

Players who played the Mass Effect franchise often talk about the emotional connection they had with their teammate, different path, different romance route.

Cheese~

Mass Effect design is well-crafted in the characterization of each character. They feel real because while they look different, they share human insecurities and personality traits that we find in others too.

I took the red cupcake.

These personality traits in each of them make the experience meaningful for many players. So much though when the ending first came out, people went nuts. That’s how important these experiences are for them, for me too.

Games that make players feel like they belong in a society can help with their self-esteem and that person may surprise you once they gather enough courage to speak their mind, might even make a new friend.

So let’s apply all this knowledge into business:

  • If companies can create a fun single player experience with memorable characters and an excellent world to be in, that can be your unique model.
    • They also can save money and time by making a Single player experience as opposed to creating several modes of play and manage.
  • If your model is to create a need for your target market and they remember you, you got a community going to support you and that is important in this day and age.

My skills, abilities and interests:

  • I have created characters and stories for plays before, so I have experience in this regard.
  • Experienced in creating immersive game worlds.
  • Knowledge and experience in psychology

And with that, that’s is all.

Thanks for reading this through the end. Hope you enjoyed it.
